Development Coordinator

About the Position:
Help launch Yellow Springs Home, Inc. into a new level of mission impact through this new position! Spend your time and energy changing lives through affordable housing and work closely with the executive director to pursue successful large projects. Bring additional resources for increased capacity to the agency by lending a hand to fundraising leadership. Be part of a fast-paced, dedicated team that is passionate about our community and our mission.

Job Description:
The Development Coordinator will spend the majority of their time engaged in predevelopment support, with a focus on large, targeted rental projects. A smaller portion of time will be spent grant-writing and assisting the board, executive director, and fundraising chair in fundraising activities to sustain this new level of capacity. Training will be provided in areas where the new Development Coordinator is not already experienced. 

Duties:

Predevelopment
:

Assist the executive director by providing leadership for predevelopment activities such as: site control, community partnerships, funding, development partner selection, design and community input, marketing and outreach, zoning, service providers, public support, and other activities as needed, focusing on:
  • Artist live-work lofts
  • Senior housing 
  • Family housing 
  • Other projects and programs as they arise

Grant Writing:

  • Collaborate on grant-writing with the executive director and AmeriCorps VISTA
  • Assist in tracking, monitoring, and reporting for awarded grants 
  • Build relationships with potential and existing funders
  • Identify and apply for grants to support increased capacity

Fundraising Leadership:

  • Assist board of directors and executive director in carrying out annual fundraising plans to increase capacity 
  • Assist the board fundraising chair in providing organization to the committee and to various fundraising initiatives, such as events, major donor solicitation, and annual giving 
  • Assist in the development of a multi-year fundraising plan with a consultant firm and board leadership
  • Other fundraising duties as they apply, such as managing the GiftWorks database

Administrative Duties
:

  • Supervision of AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer program as needed
  • Additional duties as they arise—as a small agency, staff wear many hats 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Nonprofit experience, particularly with an agency where staff have a variety of roles
  • Affordable housing and/or seeking funding through a state Housing Finance Agency or other governmental source 
  • Fundraising leadership (e.g. asking for donations from individuals, event planning, and managing a fundraising plan)
  • Successful grant writing and reporting 
  • Familiarity with Community Land Trusts
  • Experience with affordable housing development and an understanding of predevelopment  
  • History in building partnerships between various community groups and stakeholders (e.g. development partners, service providers, etc.)
  • Experience with project management 
  • Advanced degree in related field 
  • Excels in building relationships, partnerships, and collaborating 
  • Reliability, self-motivation, ability to develop and carry out a work plan and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and prioritization 
  • Willingness to be flexible and shift gears quickly while thinking and acting boldly, assisting the director and being a team player 
  • Outstanding writing, editing, and communication skills and professionalism 
  • Mastery of technology skills including the Microsoft and Google Suites 
  • Enthusiasm and passion for the mission, vision, and values of Yellow Springs Home, Inc. 
  • Commitment to administrative elbow grease and hard work necessary to build organizational capacity to pursue long-term projects 
  • Valid drivers license, as some travel is required 

Compensation:
  • $30,000-$35,000 depending on experience 
  • Retirement benefits
