Yellow Springs Home, Inc. is hiring Miller Fellows!
Yellow Springs Home, Inc. is an affordable housing nonprofit that serves Yellow Springs and Miami Township. The mission of Yellow Springs Home, Inc. is to strengthen Community and Diversity in Yellow Springs and Miami Township by providing Permanently Affordable and Sustainable housing through our Community Land Trust.
We are a small organization that makes an impact in our community by dedicating every resource available to supporting our mission. Through the Student Miller Fellowship program, we are able to hire college students (“Miller Fellows”) to help build our capacity, while also providing key learning opportunities for those students. Although Miller Fellowships are primarily awarded to Antioch College students, the program has the flexibility to allow non-profit employers to hire a right-fitted student candidate from another college or university. Home, Inc. has recruited talented Miller Fellows from Wright State as well as Antioch.

All of the above tasks are important and have a place in our organization. Under the current terms of the program, Miller Fellows earn $10/hour in their first year of service and $12/hour in subsequent years. In an organization the size of Yellow Springs Home, Inc, the work carried out by our Miller Fellows is key to meeting our capacity needs. We want to partner with candidates who are driven to do their best work and advance their own skills and experiences while helping us serve on the front lines of the growing affordability crisis.

- Committed to professionalism in the work setting (punctuality, communication, attention to detail and follow-through)
- Invested in championing their own learning through their work
- Invested in extending their learning through self-advocacy and communication with their team and leadership
- Demonstrated understanding of the necessity and inherent value of all organizational tasks – from the simple and mundane to the complex and intensive
Some key work plan items that a Miller Fellow may be asked to do include:
- Administrative support, including telephone and mail communication workflow, document management, data entry, office supply inventory management
- Operational/organizational support, including aiding in event planning, reaching out to other organizations for quotes and services needed, calling clients on our rental waiting list, supporting key organizational relationships through donor processing workflow, putting together a member mailing for appeal letters or newsletters, and aiding in grant writing
- Over time, Miller Fellows at our organization are given more involved work as it relates to their ability, skill set, and interests
