Black Lives Matter
Yellow Springs Home, Inc. supports Black Lives Matter. As the nation confronts in unprecedented ways the systemic racism and inequality permeating our culture and institutions, we fully support the protests taking place in villages and cities worldwide. Racial wealth disparities persist in every corner of America, including here at home, and as a community land trust we are focused on the constructive steps that will follow the marching and protests. Housing equity continues to be an issue at the forefront of the struggle for civil rights.
Home, Inc. stands on the shoulders of giants working to address centuries of racist and exclusionary land policy, broken promises, Black Land Loss, and discrimination in mortgage access, wealth creation opportunity, economic self-sufficiency, and access to home ownership. Strengthening community and diversity are inherent to our mission, bylaws, and articles of incorporation. We’ve worked diligently on this mission for nearly a quarter of a century, yet there is still so much to be done.
We are committed to identifying new ways to bring an anti-racist and inclusive racial equity lens to our land stewardship, governance, projects, programs, and outreach. We are committed to expanding strategies to meaningfully support diversity and inclusion and to remove barriers to equality in Yellow Springs beyond the homes that we build.
We welcome your input. Please share with us your ideas and suggestions on how to carry this work further. As the Yellow Springs Village Council recently stated, racial equity will only be achieved only when race is no longer a predictor of life outcomes.
We stand strong and united with our community, and we are committed to a future where housing is a human right, poverty is eradicated, and racial equity is achieved.
